MMSU is PH finest PT school

College of Health Sciences – Not only twice, but thrice.

Shouts of joy and jubilation thundered from the Physical Therapy (PT) Building here as the department reasserted its might by garnering anew the number one rank for top PT schools in the country for the third time.

This yet another feat was evident in the recent press release from the Board of PT and Occupational Therapy of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) which revealed that MMSU posted an 88.24 percent passing rate. The figure represents 15 successful passers out of the 17 hopeful examinees in the licensure examination held Feb. 5-6. The record is way above the national passing rate of 50.49 percent.

The University of Santo Tomas, one of the well-established PT schools in Metro Manila, garnered a passing rate of 84.62 percent representing  11 passers out of 13 takers – making it only second in rank in the examination. With this achievement, the department again added another feather to its cap of rich tradition of lofty school rankings and individual topnotchers.

The following are the new PTRPs: Andrea Lorinette Joyce C. Agpalza, Hannah L. Agustin, Angelo Miguel E. Albano, China Mae A. Amodo, Marty John F. Andres, Thea Dece A. Caluya,  Aisa M. Cardona, Aylen Gia M. Flores, Chona P. Ibon, Rachel C. Josol, Alice Marie D. Ochoco, Win Love L. Pacunana, Audrey Faith T. Sunico, Mark Daniel Rufino R. Tayamen, and Reina May C. Valenzuela.

Although the PT Department is considered one of the youngest academic units of MMSU, it takes pride of a wealthy legacy of PRC-related accomplishments. It started fielding examinees in August 1998 and occupied the top post for the first time in February 2007. This was also the time when the department produced its first rank one topnotcher, Viena Bumanglag. In that same year, three others occupied top positions: Myra Ragsac (second), Lyle Van Aldrich Ines (third), and Glaiza Gapuzan (seventh).

MMSU again occupied the top institutional spot in the February 2009 licensure examination. “This is a validation of the department’s thrust to maintain academic excellence, and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and discipline of students, parents, faculty members, and other stakeholders, as well as the full support given by the administration,” said Prof. Manuel Ted F. Aurelio, department head. Prof. Lailani S. Galutira, CHS dean, also expressed her pride and elation over the passers “for upholding once again the Green and Gold”. “I am thankful also to all the people who have supported us through the years, especially the Almighty Father,” she added. She encouraged the new PTs to continue the good job they have started and keep their feet anchored on the ground.

According to Antonette Tañajura,
BSPT Level V student, the achievement of this batch of passers boosts their morale to achieve better. “I hope this feat will continue as it motivates us,” added Aarjohn Jerick Fagaragan, another BSPT Level IV student. Moreover, Antonette Yu, BSPT Level II student, expressed her amazement because she did not expect MMSU to garner the number one rank. “With this, I am more challenged to strive better,” she said.

MMSU is the only state-run institution offering BSPT in Luzon outside Metro Manila. This program was implemented by virtue of Board of Regents Resolution No. 183A, s.1993 and has been continuously serving the country by producing world-class physical therapists for 18 years now.
